Research expertise

Research into the physiopathology of sleepwalking. Relationship between the content of dreams and nightmares and psychological well-being. Recurrent dreams, lucid dreams, assessment and treatment of parasomnias, EEG and NREM sleep.

Areas of expertise

Current projects

  • Questions being addressed in our current projects:
  • How are people’s personality, well-being and daytime experiences reflected in their everyday dreams?
  • What is the relation between stress and nightmares?
  • Why do some people experience recurrent dreams? In what ways are children’s recurrent dreams different from those of adults?
  • What is the clinical significance of nightmares reported by children victims of sexual and physical abuse?
  • What goes on in the brain of sleepwalkers right before they have a somnambulistic episode? How can we best understand their brain state during actual episodes? What does brain imaging during sleep and wakefullness tell us about the disorder?
  • What is the relationship between nightmares and suicidal ideation?
  • What are there imaginative and cognitive limits inherent to lucid dreaming?
